Is Bombay Sapphire actually blue, and what is best to mix with it?
I'm getting my boyfriend a bottle for his birthday. Though he's never had it, he saw it somewhere and now really wants it. I don't think he'll like it but whatever, its his birthday. So what can I mix it with that will be fairly tasty? And is it actually blue or is that jus the bottle color?
Oh, and how about an average price?
Just to add a little overall information:
Magellan is the only blue-colored brand, and that's artificially dyed.
Gin is basically vodka that has been flavored with various botanicals, most notably juniper berries. This gives it a herbaceous/pine tree smell and taste.
Bombay Sapphire is a slightly softer (not so astringent tasting), slightly sweeter gin than a lot of traditional London Dry gins. As such, it's easy to add too much and mask the flavor.
Gin generally does very well with citrus flavors. You might consider making gimlets (3 oz. gin, 1 oz. sweetened lime juice). If either of you find that the gin taste is too strong, you might consider adding a little triple sec to it -- the sweet orange flavor won't get rid of the piney gin flavor, but it will make it less medicinal tasting and much easier to drink.
