What are some fun things to do in the vicinity of Santa Barbara, CA (south CA) during week long vacation?
I am visiting my grandfather for a week from Washington. That will be really nice to see him again. He has planned a music concert (vocal and dance), but he suggested Knotts Berry Farm. What can we do there, if he doesn't go on the rides? (lol) Anything in LA, san diego? I was thinking relax on beach, relax in general, go to a dance session.
I'd say at least 90% of Knott's Berry Farm's entertainment value comes from its rides. There are some milder rides aimed at young children that your grandfather might be able to tolerate, but I'd be surprised if he enjoyed himself. Also, when planning your excursions keep in mind that California is a big state: Los Angeles is more than a 90 minute drive from Santa Barbara and San Diego is about four hours away.
Now as for what to do in Santa Barbara -- The typical tourist attractions are shopping on State Street, exploring Stearn's Wharf, strolling the extensive waterfront, and visiting the old Spanish Mission. Lesser known destinations include the Santa Barbara Botanical Garden, a large, quiet place showcasing plants native to California, and the quaint Santa Barbara Zoo.
Honestly, from Goleta to Montecito, the entire Santa Barbara area is absolutely beautiful. Just driving around you're bound to come across all sorts of sights and sounds. Santa Barbara's a great place to explore on your own because it's not very large, so you can visit many different neighborhoods quickly without fear of getting lost. Should you need to ask for directions, the people are quite friendly.
