You don't have to put your bedroom through a complete overhaul to change its look and feel. Sometimes new bedding or a new accent piece is all you need to achieve the desired effect. Here are a few ways to make your bedroom more romantic without spending tons of cash.

Hmmm. Have you thought about throwing out the curtains and rug, and starting from scratch? Just kidding.

White comes to mind. Of course, we all know the problems that come with THAT color. If your fastidious, though, it could work for you. Especially if you get stain resistant furniture or vinyl.

Seeing that most people, even with the best intentions, still find white has a propensity for attracting dirt/stains regardless, you could invest in wicker furniture. Hey, it could work! Unusual would probably be a good pick.

What about leather? It's expensive, but it would look nice. Add a look of quality and relaxation, all at once.

In either case, throw in some plants for decoration (something that is great on an open floor plan,) and you'll feel great.

You could look for furniture where the wood is showing, whatever colors you go with, to draw your eyes up from the floor to the furniture. What about dying the curtains? Believe it or not, I've successfully done this before, with great results. The problem is, you can't go lighter, only darker. The most you could do is tint the green colors with yellow for a yellow-green. I personally don't like any form of yellow with brown.

My husband says you should replace the curtains and change the carpet. All he could think of was going brown or black. Darker, basically. I find this hard to justify with having a bright room that you should be able to capitalize on. That's why I like white walls, white furniture, or furnishings that have a lot of wood or a natural look. You can keep the curtains then, too. Check my links below for a sense of the color schemes I am talking about.

You're right in the middle of vacuuming your living room and smoke starts pouring out the side of your vacuum cleaner. The next day you visit the vacuum repair shop and the technician tells you that that the repair of your antiquated vacuum is going to cost you two hundred dollars. At this point you decide to buy new, but which vacuum is the best buy for the money? The two most popular brands of vacuum cleaners on the market are Dyson and Hoover, but which is better. Three variables to consider when buying a vacuum cleaner are cost, capabilities, performance and durability.

The main difference between Hoover and Dyson vacuum cleaners is price point. Dyson vacuum cleaners have always been known to be higher priced than Hoover claiming that you get more vacuum and higher performance for the money. The current Dyson price point for a vacuum cleaner ranges from just under four hundred dollars to the just under six hundred dollars with seven different models to choose from.

Hoover on the other hand has over thirty five upright units ranging from sixty dollars to just under four hundred dollars for the top of the line Hoover platinum series upright. When considering what to pay for a vacuum I always look at the warranty. The warranty is usually a good indication of how firmly the manufacturer believes in the vacuum cleaner it is selling. With Hoover's new Platinum line Hoover has increased their warranty to six years giving the platinum line of vacuums an extra year over Dyson. In the area of warranty and price Hoover beats out Dyson hands down.

The capability of a vacuum cleaner should be matched to the tasks it has to perform and the environment the vacuum cleaner is going to be used in. For people with multi level homes a lighter vacuum cleaner should be used for ease of carrying it from level to level. People that use a vacuum cleaner for cleaning drapery or baseboard areas should look at a vacuum cleaner that has a plethora of vacuum tools, extended wand length and lots of accessory tools. In Dyson's case all of their upright vacuums come with a detachable wand and tools designed for other cleaning tasks. In Hoover's case they the Platinum Lightweight bagged upright does not have a detachable wand, but do come with an extra small canister vacuum to compliment the upright.

Although Hoover gives you an upright and a canister vacuum all the in the same box I found that having to use two vacuums instead of one unit took not only extra time but also extra storage space. Hoover recently introduced their version of a cyclonic upright called the UH70015. This vacuum cleaner comes with an aluminum lightweight wand, stretchable eight foot hose and dusting brush. Both manufactures products do a great job in fulfilling all the tasks that a vacuum cleaner has to perform but for ease of use Dyson makes cleaning a pleasurable experience. Dyson Vacuum cleaners seem be one step ahead of Hoover for maneuverability and the refinement in both looks and engineering.

In the vacuum world cyclonic technology seems to be a synonym for increased performance, but how much better is the cyclonic vacuum over its predecessors. Having professionally reviewed over forty different vacuum cleaners and working in the wholesale cleaning industry for over 15 years I do see that the cyclonic vacuum does have its advantages. A cyclonic vacuum seems to suck up more debris from baseboard areas and has more retention of dirt around the brush area on hard surface floors. On the other hand the power of a cyclonic vacuum can cause havoc on delicate materials such as cotton. Rug edges also seem to pose a problem by getting more easily sucked up by a cyclonic over conventional vacuums cleaner. When looking at performance be careful to look at the areas that you are vacuuming and match its power to the types of materials you are going to clean.

When you're thinking of paying a high price for a vacuum cleaner, durability is always a concern. If you look at the life of a vacuum cleaner versus the price you're paying, the top end Dyson would cost you one hundred and twenty dollars a year if the vacuum cleaner lasts five years or the life of its warranty. In Hoover's case, if the Platinum Cyclonic were to last you six years, or the life of its warranty you would be paying sixty seven dollars a year. Looking at the durability of higher end retail vacuums I would base its life expectancy on the warranty of the unit. Most higher priced vacuums cost more to repair, and in the case of catastrophic failure you would be better to discard the vacuum than to have it repaired. For this reason I would always base the life expectancy of a higher end vacuum of the length of the warranty. With the exception of the vacuum cleaner being broken by owner neglect the vacuum cleaner should cost very little to fix with the assistance of the warranty covering most of the bill.

Overall if you're looking to save some money and get a new vacuum cleaner every five or six years the Hoover Platinum Cyclonic seems to be the better buy. With just under two hundred dollars in savings the Hoover unit has a better warranty and will perform the same tasks as Dyson's most expensive vacuum. Dyson does have some other features such as ball technology which enables the user to maneuver the vacuum for efficiently. If you're looking for these types of features Dyson's lineup might be better suited to your needs.

1.      Zebroid = Zebra + Equine

A zebroid (also zebra mule and zebrule) is the offspring of any cross between a zebra and any other equine: essentially, a zebra hybrid. In most cases, the sire is a zebra stallion. Offspring of a donkey sire and zebra mare, called a zebra hinny, do exist but are rare. Zebroids have been bred since the 19th century. The zebroid showed in the picture above, Eclyse, is a very unusual one, because of her coloring. With her über distinct makings, it's really hard not think she's a Photoshop mock-up.

1.      Liger = Lion + Tiger

The liger is a hybrid cross between a male Panthera leo (lion), and a female Panthera tigris (Tiger) and is denoted scientifically as Panthera tigris × Panthera leo. A liger resembles a giant lion with diffused stripes. They are the largest cats in the world, although the Siberian Tiger is the largest pure sub-species. Like tigers, but unlike lions, ligers enjoy swimming. A similar hybrid, the offspring of a male tiger and a female lion is called a tigon.

2.      Beefalo = Buffalo + Cow

What do you get when you cross a cow with a buffalo? The Beefalo, a hybrid animal that produces red meat lower in fat and cholesterol than beef. Most consumers have never heard of beefalo, let alone tasted it, and only a few Seattle grocery stores carry it.

How does a buffalo burger compare to a beef one? "It has a richer flavor and it's milder and sweeter than beef," says Ellensburg beefalo breeder Mark Merril, "and more juicy."

3.      Cama = Camel + Llama

This hybrid animal, the product of breeding a llama and a camel, has been the only creature of this kind since her birth in 1995. Camas are humpless and have the long fluffy coat of a llama. Their ears are half way in length between camels and llamas, but they have the strong, desert-ready legs of a camel.

4.      Leopon = Leopard + Lion

The Leopon is the result of breeding a male leopard with a female lion. The head of the animal is similar to that of a lion while the rest of the body carries similarities to leopards. The first documented leopon was bred at Kolhapur, India in 1910.

5.      Savannah = Serval + Domestic Cat

The Savannah Cat is created by breeding an African Wild Cat, called a Serval and a domestic cat, usually an exotic looking domestic cat such as a Bengal, Oriental Shorthair, Egyptian Mau, or a Serengeti's. The offspring created by this combination are large domestic.

6.      Grizzly Polar = Polar Bear + Brown Bear

Also known as Grolar Bear, this bear hybrid is a rare ursid hybrid that has occurred both in captivity and in the wild. In 2006, the occurrence of this hybrid in nature was confirmed by testing the DNA of a strange-looking bear that had been shot on Banks Island in the Canadian arctic.

A number of polar bear hybrids are described as Ursid hybrids, a term that designates any hybrid of two species within the Ursidae family. Polar bear hybrids with Grizzly bears have been reported and shot, but DNA techniques were not available to verify the bears' ancestry.

7.      Toast of Botswana = Sheep + Goat

An unusual case of a sheep-goat hybrid was reported by veterinarians in Botswana in 2000, called the "Toast of Botswana". The animal was born naturally from the mating of a female goat with a male sheep that were kept together.

The hybrid was intermediate between the two parent species in type. It had a coarse outer coat, a woolly inner coat, long goat-like legs and a heavy sheep-like body. Although infertile, the hybrid had a very active libido, mounting both ewes and does when they were not in heat. This earned the hybrid the name Bemya or rapist. He was castrated when he was 10 months old because he was becoming a nuisance.

8.      Blood parrot = Midas Cichild + Red Devil fish

The Blood parrot (also known as bloody parrot and blood parrotfish) is a hybrid cichlid. The fish was first created in Taiwan in around 1986. Its parentage is unknown, but the most commonly speculated pairings are midas cichlid with the redhead cichlid. This hybrid cichlid has various anatomical deformities; one of the most obvious, and also deadly, deformities is its mouth, which only has very narrow vertical opening. This makes blood parrot very hard to feed. Many die eventually because of this. Cichlid enthusiasts have called for their removal from the market and organized boycotts against pet stores that sell them.

9.      Hybrid Pheasant = Golden + Amherst Pheasant

The Golden Pheasant has commonly been crossed with the similar Lady Amherst's Pheasant. The result is a hybrid with distinguished colors from its parents.
